….you will never wash my feet….unless you wash my feet you will have no part with me..John 13:8 In this well known passage where Jesus washes the feet of Peter, there are three possible explanations. 1. It is an example of the humility and servant like attitude of Jesus. From this passage and others is derived the Servant Model of Leadership which is very popular among Christians. 2. It is a commandment or an ordinance to be followed much like baptism or the Lord’s Supper. 3. It is a prerequisite for fellowship. The key word is part. In biblical times, a traveler would get his feet full of sand as he traveled the mostly unpaved road. A servant would wash his feet upon entrance to a home. Likewise, as we journey in this world as believers we soil our feet with sin and we need to confess that sin to have fellowship (part) with the Lord.
Prayer– Thanks for the beginning of another day. Lord as I journey in this world I know that I have been soiled with sin. Cleanse me and restore my fellowship with you. In Jesus Name Amen
